I only saw the one where no one even looked--a very brief clip
and I see now, reinforcement of the argument of media callousness and cynicism, that that was all they chose to show on that report.

From the video that I saw, the only crime was the cowards ran this man over! People did approach and I am confident they did the right thing by not interfering until qualified medical help arrived. Of which there is no reference in the media accounts!

It shocked me to see that no one went over to the old man to see if
anything at all could be done for him, even if it was only to hear his last words. That is a simple, human, humane response to someone falling down. Or being knocked down. In some of us it is a reflex, in others, the reflex is to avoid involvement. Remember Kitty Genovese who was gradually stabbed to death on a New York street, while neighbors watched from their windows and did nothing? I wonder if any of them still hear her screams...
Making 'news' fodder of the footage, I agree, is typical of the media that cares more about whether they can shock and titillate: using body-count to engage consumers is as cynical as the passers-by ignoring visible human anguish, and part of what deadens the humanity in us.
Oh, and the terribly concerned, highly moral tonalities in which they tell us all about it--the height of hypocrisy.
The many faults of the media don't mitigate the fault of those who just choose not to be involved, or who turn to their electronic rather than human connections to the world.

Cheugon,
It ceases to entertain when they are the subject of their own mean spirited reporting! Only then! Thanks for the great comment.

The shameless way...
...in which the media sensationalize horrific tragedies, such as this, shows how apathetic to the suffering of others
they are.
Remember, years back, when the cameraman and media crew watched and filmed, as a man set himself on fire?
Talk about apathy!!! Talk about detachment!!!
You're right, they have no room to talk.
Great post!

I did hear later that they may have over reacted to what had been filmed. There were calls to 911 immediately. Bottom line, you point is well taken. I don't know if you ever get to my blog, but I like calling cards! sam

BC-A,
The video is actually from a stationary security camera. I am simply appalled that the corporate media continues to dictate moral outrage! That we should judge untrained medical professionals as morals criminal! Who judges this media that has witnessed genocide with celebration?
