We can't become adults until we forgive those who trespass against us.....
and this isn't Bible speak, just reality.
Until we forgive our parents for being ignorant human beings, doing the best that they know how, screwing up and moving on in parenting, well then, we can't grow up and become adults, as part of the definition of adulthood is seeing the ALL of life around us, the good, the bad and the fairly yucky.
We then see ourselves as flawed, too, and realize that no one is perfect and few of us are determinedly horrible, we're mostly just accidentally horrible, perhaps.
I was a young and idiot mother....I forgave my parents for what made me insane at the time of my youth, as I tried to figure out how to raise my children without messing them up, too.....and failed, as we all mess up, intentionally or accidentally.
I loved them enormously, as my parents loved me. They might not have thought so at the time, as I didn't way back when.
With all this, I only mean to say that I am so sorry for your father. Sorry for you if he was a pedophile or something beyond my ken, but otherwise, if he was just generally messed up as most stupid parents are, well then, learn to forgive him for your own character building good.
Oh, and I know it's none of my business.....sorry.
