- Go to A Brief Note on North American Health Care
If you can't afford to
get ill, literaly, it is a problem. In Japan medicine is socialised but there is a shortage of doctors, nurses and medical workers all around particularly in the rural areas where populations are mainly elderly and where health care is a dire need. (No money there!) Hospitals are folding and emergency patients have died from being turned down by hospital after hospital because of lack of staff and beds and finally dying in the ambulance. They are re-vamping the equivalent of medicare for the elderly, but they screwed up because now those without money have to pay more, the elderly are having sit in demonstrations. By God it is royaly screwed up! I get angry but my anger is useless. It feels very hopeless like the feeling I had after watching Micheal Moor's Sicko.

Excellent assessment...
...I agree. As usual, the solution is between the extremes.
As you suggested, use what works from both systems and combine them for flexibility and applicability.

If one doesn't have insurance in this country they are going to get treated as well as those with insurance. Free clinics are popping up to help with the common problems but nothing that requires great care. I think the US needs an overhaul as well. sam
