If we are using middle astern countries as our guidelines, then we need to add Christians to the list of 'losers' since Christians are just as likely, if not more so, to be killed because of their beliefs than atheists in those countries.
And then in the USA there is major persecution over religious ideas every where you turn. Right now we have preachers in America out there, who have been commended by Bush and McCain, who openly endorse genocide of the Muslims.
I am really feeling that you don't know what you are talking about and that you just made a comment to begin with and then had to figure out how to defend it. You really have no solid ground here.

Oh YEAH!? Just try telling that to an Atheist in one of the Mid-Eastern countries -- if, indeed, you are even able to FIND one! Must be something about the country or something, don't you think? In a Christian land llike the USA, the most you will probably ever suffer is to prayed for!

I wonder how many who profess their belief are willing to be a sacrificial lamb, to the ultimate price. This is what makes Christianity strong, we have a sacrificial lamb to guide us into greater introspection of ourselves! The Comforter is mightier than any human understanding and therefore has the power to give and reward our righteousness us! sam

God's 'boys' don't ever lose. They are rightfully placed. They may not be Emperor...they may not have a roof over their heads, but they walk in the way of the Lord. The Eternal is their reward. Atheists are trying to say that that they are moral and will gain salvation....but you don't believe in a God! So you can't explain creation. So you do not know who to give thanks and praise to. Well, you do worship random elemental interactions...the elements could not have existed without a creator. Kooka and company have nothing to edify me with!

In this day and age however
An atheist stand to lose much more by hiding his/her beliefs sand not be honest than if they are out spoken. The more atheists who 'come out' the more power there will be behind them all. And the more likely they will be able to make actual, useful change for the benefit of all.
Part of your problem with not getting this is that you really don't know what it is like to be an 'announced atheist'. Well I do I promise you that I have really lost nothing at all but have gained so much in understanding myself and having a better understanding of spirituality.
In fact I would be willing to say the greatest losers in our modern world are those who are dishonest about their beliefs and deny who they are by saying nothing in order to fit in with the crowd. I know what they are losing, since I was once there way back when. They have no sense of self and are truly lost. If they would be honest and open and have the courage and strength to 'come out', then they would gain so much.
