The lesson here is if you confide in a friend be prepared for their honest

to goodness response - even if it is not what you want to hear. Real Friends are honest and forthright. Real friends don't give you just what you want to hear. People who want something from you do.

Friends should tell it like they see it and you then chose to accept their view or reject it as valid for you and your situation.

I've got a couple of friends like that--like your friend, they're not cold, they're just doers instead of listeners. You tell them about something, and their gut reaction is to problem solve, instead of just listen and be sympathetic.

She's still a good person though, and likely a good friend--perhaps just not the one to turn to for comfort!

My kids were incredible eaters and could get to gain weight. I can't imagine how difficult it must be with kids at opposite ends of the spectrum. I have read both stories and I think they each carry their own merit. The suspense of the rooftop is more difficult to compare with a nice love story.   sam

KaBooM, my oldest son is very thin.   About two years ago his doctor and his nutritionist told him he must eat 4000 calories a day.  He only laughed at them because he is not really interested in eating all that much.  So, I started cooking things that had always been his favorites when he was growing up and that he remembered with fondness, to peak his appetite.  Well, guess what.  I am the one who gained weight.  Now I am trying to loose it and still encourage him to eat more.  I'm not doing a whole lot of good at either.

i won't comment on your conversation with your friend...but it is kind of sad that you can't feel that you can divulge personal feelings with her anymore. sometimes all we need is an ear...not any opinion back...in a sense...
