I actually like crazy people and will listen to them

Most of them are just lost souls who need the compassion you showed and this sort of stuff is their way of reaching out to communicate with others however stuffed it is.

I find up tight anally controlled bureaucrats far more dangerous than someone with conspiracy or alien abduction theories.

Good on you for listening.

If we live long enough and study enough we'll develop our own theory
on the world and who's doing what to whom. Weirdos are like snowflakes, no two are exactly alike, but there are patterns. Some of us are magnets for them, possibly because we're only a couple strokes away from the deep end ourselves, possibly because we work in a jobsite that's accessible to the public. Maybe you should take notes; a collection of this kind would make an interesting book.

Proof you have a good heart
When in the past they used to be housed and cared for, many who are mentally ill are now left to their own devices. I got my MA in Psych in the late 1970's - right before the most ill were released to the streets due to decreased funding. This is where my bleeding liberal heart starts beating. I feel so sorry for those who suffer alone.

I think it's very sad what loneliness can do to a person
and how far they will go for a listening ear.......... you did the right thing my friend; thanks for sharing and God bless

I, like vickip, work in the apartment business...
...and have encountered my share of people with paranoid delusions.
One woman in her sixties, used to call the rental office claiming that maintanence personnel climbed through her kitchen window at night, while she wasn't home, and stole her steak knives.
She was a very nice and personable lady, otherwise.
You can't help but feel sorry for them, and I think your showing patience with the woman you spoke of, was very admirable and possibly the only voice of patience and understanding she'd heard in a while.
Nice but sad post.

That's so sad ... and pretty much a common
occurrence when you work with apartment communities.  After over 20 years in the business, I could tell you some really far-out and hilarious stories.  Exorcizing the ghost rat that followed an older woman (75, maybe) from California - as she sat in my office while the maintenance team preformed the ritual.  There was the man not too long ago who asked us to install a door on the whole in the wall in the tub where he pulls the pigeons out and sets them free off his balcony.  Allrighty then ... you have to act like you hear these requests all the time.

They've always sought me out. Something about sympathetic vibrations. I don't mean by that phrase that I'm sympathetic (although I'd like to think that I am.) What I mean is that I must be in some way like them. Or maybe I am them. It's happened all of my life. Friends, co-workers ask me: "How do they find you?" "Beats the hell out of me," I reply. I too try to listen but, I learned a long time ago - they never run dry. Yeah, we need more resources. I don't care, do it however will work - "tax and spend" or "compassionate conservative" - just do it. If you want more, JMH, send me your phone number. I'll pass mine along to you. Blessings, Moon
