Transcendental_Child - ignorance is really the root cause of what we are
speaking of here.
Some people around here do not recognize what they are doing amounts to nothing more than bigotry.

jollyjeff -someone felt it necessary to compile a list of prominent atheist
From which I plucked a few names, there are many more. Why someone compiled such a list is probably to refute atheist bashing but who knows?

Gomes...
I am an out-loud - out of the closet - and proud atheist. I am anything but a loser... I have said it before... ignorance knows no bounds. As usual... an excellent post.

Interesting Stuff
I didn't know that those people were atheists. I used to be an atheist--swear to God. LOL

jesse_jean - Re: i got to actually go to Mark Twain's cabin
That sounds like an interesting daytrip.
I feel the same way about the beliefs of others, I could not care less what anyone believes just as long as they adhere to two criteria. The first one being that I don't have listen to what they believe unless I choose to, the second one being that they practice what they preach.

ZenMom - RE: I've met some great people through Bloggit
I feel the same way, I've met a number of great people through this site.
I appreciate the compliment but I don't think that I deserve it. From my perspective, bopping a few obtuse religionists over the head with their own inconsistencies, especially when it concerns their attempts to establish and maintain inequitable social norms favoring their religion, is to me simply a thinking person's duty.

gapcohen - I know what you mean about becoming discouraged with Blogit
There have been days when what I see in posts and comments makes me wonder what I am doing here. The lack of objection to posts that are nothing more than bigotry or thinly disguised prejudice and hate, is almost understandable in this setting. To draw attention to something in this format insures that it will find a wider audience. The part that has continuously bothered me about this site however, has been when such posts or comments are endorsed by others showing support. The ravings of one person can be dismissed as just that; the ravings of one person but what are we to think of a community offering support for those ravings?
I particularly liked your objection to the issue discussed in this post: HERE . . . there are a number of elements that allow someone to have such tunnel vision but the single biggest factor is the "we are chosen, we are right" syndrome. The views of those afflicted with this limitation denote one glaring deficiency common to "ALL" of them (just kidding about the "ALL" part). That being they have never set foot off of the North American continent, limiting their datum line to nothing more than their own religious enclave and its religious views. Many of them truly believe the world is simply one big extension of America. Many of them are not yet mature enough to be members of a world community, be it cybor or otherwise.

OH BTW
Mark Twains cabin was awesome. Nothing fancy, but you could feel the intensity and I could almost just see the writing on the wall, all the rejections he papered a wall with, but most of all, it was like I was stepping back into his world. The simplicity, yet the air of complication and cognizance were present. It was awe-inspiring.

i got to actually go to Mark Twain's cabin
Frankly, I don't care what you believe in or what you don't believe in. You have a right to believe whatever you want to. Oh by the way, is a zebra white on black or black on white??
Sorry, I had to ask. Nothing is ever black and white anymore is it??? Somewhere, someone is going to throw in a little grey, or is that gray??
You just keep writing, I enjoy your posts very much.

I've met some great people through Bloggit
But almost gave it up as soon as I began posting due to an extremely ANTI-SEMETIC blogger who I'd stumbled upon quite by accident. Looking over the comments to his posts, I did not see any that even came close to condemnation - so I do understand how you felt when Mr. "All Announced Atheists are Losers" ran his bloggit mouth and no-one seemed to want to refute him (though I did). I'm not sure why we don't see much protest to disrespectful and hateful posts - however, once I made my discomfort known on my own post, plenty of fellow bloggers (ZenMom in particular) gave me reason to stay. I'm here because I learn a lot from people all over the country and the world, and those I read regularly are smart and funny and witty - and can write!
