I mostly agree with your opinion, but sometimes even a whole world of knowledge and no wisdom makes one too. If you study philosophy of science you will also realize that what seemed like solid facts often turn out to be nothing but informed opinion. As you may well gather I'm sometimes a bit of an opinionated ass myself. Fortunately we are living, changing and very adaptable beings and we can (or at least some of us can) acknowledge when we have mistakenly given too much importance to our opinions. It is easy to become opinionated and arrogant if you experience no real challenge or are too busy feeling superior to notice when you do. The other side of the coin is that some of these people have probably been brought up in an environment were this kind of behavior was their only recourse to maintain some sense of self worth and due to the force of habit they are now stuck in it. It is a pity since they are sometimes actually rather intelligent and could have been a real asset to society.
