Terrible situation in Burma and China. And in each case, their governments bear a huge responsibility for the appaling loss of life...
But Toronto iffy??? It's time these kids learned about the center of the universe...

A wonderful post my friend, and I agree with you Toronto is iffy.LOL
Like you I am very happy that the Chinese premier left before the earthquake and it is a wonderful step for Japan and China to 'move on' from the war.
It must be very difficult for the Chinese to forget the atrocities, 'cuz I'm only one person who has had difficulty as a boy forgiving the Japanese because my oldest brother Mike was shot down and killed over the Himalaya's by Japanese and I was the baby brother of eight children and Mike the oldest.
When I look at those pictures of the aftermath of that earthquake, I had the thought that those buildings not only didn't have steel but the concrete mixture was probably low in concrete to sand ratio, too much sand.
Thank you for the picture, marvelous read about Japan luv.

actually the worse the distaster and my helpless sadness the more I try to do something positive. If I can I will pay for a survival parcel but NOT to an area where I believe it will get channelled to an opressive army.
When 9/11 happened, I went outside and planted some uncompromisingly cheerful bright coloured flowers. It was a living memorial and a sign of hope.

Mother nature has been kicking some butt lately
and that's sad.
But what makes me really upset, is the actions of the leaders of those battered nations. They're more concerned with their own political agendas than saving the lives of their poor citizens.
If Mr. Oval office wants to overthrow foreign leaders, he should take a whack at Mr. Burma. I bet we'd see some foreign aid coming in if the American's stomped over there and demanded it!

The tremendous loss of life is more than I can fathom. I hope all nations accept aid to the benefit of their people. sam

KaBooM, The catastrophies of this world are so terrible and so sad, that I think if we did not go ahead and celebrate something we would all go mad. Tomorrow is my baby sister's birthday. (She will be 57. LOL) I think a birthday celebration is in order even though the suffering in China and Burma is horrendous. One cannot continually think of horror and remain sane. If I don't forget, I will tell her about the White Asparagus Celebration. Perhaps I will even give her some as a birthday present.
