I liked this composition. The close
of we were not made for this is so true. I believe in God because it gives me personal comfort. sam

GEPRUITT - that doesn't make any sense except possibly to you
The only way that an individual will not come to a conclusion of at least something being amiss within the traditional relationship of mankind and the universe we occupy, as depicted by all ancient religious doctrine; . . . is if they develop their perspective with extreme religious bias.

Re:A conclusion
" . . .one conclusion cannot be overlooked.
This universe was not designed for us. We just happened to evolve in a minute portion of it that will support our species."
I admit that this is one conclusion which may be logically reached from observed universal phenomena, but that it is certainly not the only conclusion, or a foregone one. "All things in their times and places."
I, for instance, have lived in my present earthly home for 94% of its 33 year history, and it still has the potential of being the home of several other families before it becomes too old and outdated. Nervertheless, it has already served the main purpose for which its builders designed and built it.
Your article could just as well have been entitled "After- life belief systems nurtured by Astronomy" and been equally as valid. So, I fail to see your point, unless it was to provide a n informative and well-writen article, which you did, in my opinion accomplish!

ZenMom - the emoticon is too funny (and ain't it the truth?)
It is clear when seeing some of the things put to print on this site; that the authors have never set foot into a real natural history museum or had the experience of peering through a high powered telescope. I say "real natural history museum" because the fraudulent ones set up to advance biblical teachings at the expense of reality are beginning to outnumber them. It is becoming so ridiculous that some of these folks think that the Flintstones cartoons are a documentary.
One look into one of the telescopes at one of our worldclass observatories, puts it all in perspective. It becomes clear that all ancient religious dogma was authored entirely without this perspective.

I am constantly amazed (and alarmed) at the EGO exhibited by "believers" whom spew ad nausem about "God's plan". If they could only, for one frickin MOMENT, step OUTSIDE of themselves......get over their perceived importance in the UNIVERSE and, sitting next to little Billy in earth science class, sign up for the field trip to the museum where they will see first hand the fossils/bones of pre-historic life on earth......."okay class......let's talk fossil record.....evolution........" (Maybe we should organize such a field trip for blogitville.)
