I doubt we are ever satisfied with our writing. I rewrite even when I think I have exhausted the rewrites. We are rewarded when others find our work meaningful.  sam

Yes TAPS

I agree same here. I have pieces that I have written years ago - stories and I pick them up and change them constantly as there is always room for improvement. It may be  a slight change to improve the story or I feel that I have failed in some places to convey exactly what I want or I feel it lacks clarity and can be mis interpreted.

It's a tough road, but worthwhile.

Norwood, I spend an awful lot of time editing anything that I write, but no matter how many times I edit, I still find things wrong with it after posting.

But to write a good story is a lot of hard work
Imagination is a strong spice ...you only need a touch and the rest is hard work. Twenty thousand writers can write imaginative pieces and only a few of them have that sense of realism and drawing the reader in to really feel what the writer wants them to feel and see .... it is hard to explain. Imagination is needed but I have read really imaginative pieces that lacked structure and therefore failed to reach the readers....

That's fine Whiskey
It gives a sense of light relief and a pause for thought!

I think imagination deserves a higher percentage, because without it, there is nothing to write about in the first place. Otherwise: spot on!

Sorry
I was trying to say 'what do you think of the 15 letter minimum requirement for comments that everyone is talking about'. And then I decided to test it, and it doesn't exist, and now there's a stupid comment on your board!

Yes I guess I can. I have edited a short story I am preparing for a comp
that entries close June 30, nigh on 11 or more times and I am always tweaking it. Sometimes I reread it and change just one word  kind of crazy HUH?  Writing well is hard hard yacker and not all of us are JK R are we?

Sometimes you can make crap a masterpiece

if you let it sit a day or so and then revisit it a few times and edit and edit.   A lot of Newspaper articles are written to deadlines and that is what is wrong with them. The errors are so obvious and you think 'why haven't these people picked up this error grammatical or spelling or simply poor expression?' and then you realise that some of them are hack writers who have not edited and their editor is probably stressed or tired and wanted to get home early that night.

I have even seen some books written with errors and what makes it worst was that they were English Texts for High School! Wrong tenses used and simple errors in syntax!! Those at least should be edited and checked for errors.

Thanks for the compliment but I am sure I could improve on 99.9% of what I have written. We all could and we all shouold be striving to be better, more articulate writers / communicators.

I think one key is to wait to do the editing...let it sit.
That way you see it with new eyes.Or I do anyway.
Bo =^..^= the wonder dog sends you a rose and a smile (from me too!)
