kooka_lives - the devil owns your soul, admit it now, there's still time!

Oops, wrong discussion. . . . . outside of a simple lack of respect, we have sometimes seen the rights of others completely ignored and even usurped. On a few occasions to the point of being actionable. The need to be proven right is probably number one on the deficiencies list and we can add the emotional immaturity that does not allow acknowledgement of any other set of beliefs but there is an underlying cause to all of this. Plain and simple; mental illness. Some of these people are not getting professional help when it is obvious to everyone but themselves that it is woefully needed.

Seriously, I saw the subject of "worshipping nothing" come up again in comments. Aside from being one of the stupidest phrases in the English language, it has been discussed as if it is not a meaningless and moronic catch phrase for how long now? . . .

Respect Truly Matters
As a Christian, I agree respect comes first. Respect for each other as people, regardless of our ideas,  should be intrinsic. In his dealings with people, Jesus showed love and respect, though he tended to also show disagreement with those who were self-righteous, who knew the religion, but failed to live it in a way that was life affirming and transforming.

Many things we may never agree on, but that does not mean there needs to be a lack of respect, or even friendship.

One thing I disagree with many Christians about is the tendency to generalize about other faith traditions as being demonic. I do believe there is a demonic aspect of life that can be transmitted through any tradition. But that is the not the religion, per se, so much as it is that spirit (or spirits) of evil (depending on how one wishes to express it) that persists in the world, and seems to take delight in seeing us be less than we could be. I have seen this enemy in all traditions, but know it is not of the traditions so much as a cancer that attaches itself to whatever good that is going down.

Materialists might just say that is human nature, for example, the generals withholding relief supplies in Myanmar -- to me, there is a demonic aspect to that, playing whatever pre-existing tendencies are already there.

Interesting post.........correlates w/ my latest post re: the Einstein letter that was recently auctioned off.......Einstein expressed a similar view as the one your are expressing in this post....we don't have to agree w/ one another......but, we must respect one another.  (of course, he said it much better than this......after all, he's Einstein.)
