Re: Re: Re: Maybe the problem is in the stats area.
They get their name seen by everyone who reads the comments and then they gets lots-o-clicks on their name. Then they make rank and money. Easy advertising to drop a ton of comments. Very little work for them and a big payoff. I think that is spam. Now. On to more positive things! You have a good day Ciel.

So what do they get that floats their little boats?  Is it only rankings--made meaningless by this kind of cheating--that they care about?  How shallow is that?

Re: Maybe the problem is in the stats area.
Ciel, the thing the people don't understand is that when someone goes to your comment page and leaves you any sort of comment, you, as the writer of the blog, don't get a "click". A person, a spammer let's say, can access your comments page from the new comments link. The only place where readers give a "click" or count is on the blogger's page where they have written their post. The comments are just comments and don't count. Well, I guess they count when they are good, but not financially or popularity wise. It does give nice exposure to the commenters however. ;) Oh well. Blog on my dear!

Maybe the problem is in the stats area.

It has been a long time since I cared about rankings, so this issue over determining "best bloggers' or whatever it is goes right past me.  15 letters is hardly onerous--but then, I have never been bothered by comments that were clearly not thoughtful or any kind of indication the person had actually read my piece.  I don't have to thank them--though if Teddy leaves me a rose, I know it is sincere because I have been here long enough to know it's his way.

I don't care about comment spammers--they have to give me a click to leave a pointless comment.

I go read the blogs of people who leave real comments.

Thanks guys!
I'm sure we all appreciate your being responsive, and pro-active. Spamming is a problem, but maybe this solution is the way to go. Thanks!

To make sure it's clear, the original News entry was updated yesterday to note that this requirement is no longer in effect and provide info on how to report comment spam.

I thought it was just me.

The problem I've been having is that none of my comments seem to be sticking, whether they be a word or an epistle. Let's re-think this one, guys.

True, no one likes to be spammed, but we all pretty much can tell the difference between a well-chosen few words and a "good post, come buy something of mine" kind of comment.

Wow, this is unbelievable!
Everybody being made to feel guilty of spamming, because of the actions and wishes of a minority. Seems democracy doesn't exist anywhere anymore..
Very well expressed sentiments, Ted. Thank you.

I think there should have been some sort of vote or something
long ago...when all this changing of commenting requirements started.

To me, it's very obvious to see the difference between someone who may comment 2-3 times per minute with the same emoticon, compared to those who may read and post a simple comment or emoticon.

Especially in poetry, where there is a lot of emotion, sometimes a couple of emoticons are enough just to show you sympathize with the person.

There has got to be a better way, I think.  ...my two cents.

Re: _teddypoet
What purpose does this 'requirement' serve? We are not children...as I told you in my e mail to you, I write short comments, longer comments...if I choose not to leave a comment I do not...this is a paid subscription and as such, we, the individuals who are paying the subscription, should be allowed to leave whatever length of comment we deem proper and sufficient toward whatever we are reading, whether that comment be in the nature of a long or short length of word(s) and/or use of the icons provided by the outlet to whom we subscribers are making the aforesaid payment for the use of the Site which includes BOTH space for the written word and icons decided upon and provided for subscriber use by the outlet/Site. Hopefully you will at least respect my response to your own response for which I do thank you.

As I wrote in my email to you, please don't feel that you're being singled out, the 15 letters minimum is just a new requirement for comments on Blogit. I hope you give it a chance; since it's only about 2-4 words, hopefully it won't feel too onerous even when leaving a brief comment.

teddy, I only saw the post because I was going to post here
about how upset I was about it.  But you said it better than I ever could!  Great post.  Hopefully you will be heard.

Re: teddy, it's just not you..it's all of us.
shelly, sorry it took me so long to respond...didn't realize you had seen this posting...anyway, you are so right...it does take the fun away, makes me feel like leaving the Site altogether. Seems as though neo-politico atmospheres are entering the blog arena and shredding the music away from the danse! Thanks so much for your comment, my friend.

teddy, it's just not you..it's all of us.
Just because a blogger or two have been "spamming" comments shouldn't mean that the rest of us should have to deal with the punishment.  15 letters?  Come on...it's taking the fun out of commenting.  I think blogit should come up with some other idea.  An idea that won't punish the bloggers who have done nothing wrong.
