- Go to Material living is as bad as purely spiritual living!
Thank you all for your comments. Your main concern was BALANCE. Conscious living demands that daily doings fit into the eternal scheme of your life. Every action or inaction must be in sync with the spirit that survives death. The spirit is what is important. Truly, it is not balance that counts but PURITY. Can you retain your purity in everything that you do? Can you stick to actions that are pure, even refusing to do evil if it costs you your job or friends? Life in the material world is not easy...it demands on the spot decisions that shouldn't compromise spirituality. Life as ascetics is very tempting for those wishing to evade the scourge of evil. But, ascetics often don't know the enemy within. They go into their caves only to have the dark side triumph. They come out parroting the holy books but have not one word of their own about their spiritual trek. They must have succumbed to programming, even from guru! Earthly reality must be understood not denied. Then the full impact of evil on the planet will be known. It is OK if you run to an ashrama afterwards. At least, truth is known!

I never understood...
...the point of monasteries and such secludedness. Such people are so heavenly minded, they're no earthly good. Excellent post, Soul.

Very interesting! A way of life, of living. You've read the Bagavadgita? Sounds like it.

The Hindu and Buddhists faiths are fascinating.

Very thought provoking...
I don't know if I could get my thoughts organized enough to write a piece like this, but it certainly sets one reflecting on balance in all sorts of areas. Thank you also for your kind comment on my French food article!

True
I think people get so caught up in one or the other that they lose their balance.

To become only obsessed with either is to impoverish both.

excellent!!!! A life of moderation, priorities, i have always believed in
a balanced life. We need to know what's bad to know what is good, to know sorrow so we can know happiness and on and on. But to always be balanced i believe is the best. If my family is hungry, it is better to do something about it than to pray to God to give me food, but if while working i pray for the strength to keep going so that i can feed my family then that is balanced.

"In view of the fact that evil pervades Earth, did your birth make a difference?" Oh Dave, I pray that my birth has made a difference...and I believe I shall know when the time comes if I in fact, have done the 'best' I can do in this life, while on this planet, earth. This is a great blog, Dave, left me thinking and thank you ~

I think that one should be known by their works. We are meant to enjoy this life and I think one can have want they want as long as it doesn't interfere with a relationship with the Lord. I have items that I collect or purchase with the sole intent of giving them to less fortunate individuals. I enjoyed this piece very much! sam
