Re:
Thanks for your comments and your advices vogue. I'll make sure to do as you said next time; take a taxi and discover the country (not the shops only!). It is also what we do when we go to the smaller carabean islands, the taxi drivers are friendly and ready to show you places where the "usual" tourists don't go to.

Happy I could bring back good memories! I'd like to go to the beaches next time.

Thanks for sharing so that I can go there too, Through your eyes!!

So educational to me because I am un-traveled you could say..I don't know much about other countries, this was refreshing being my thoughts today have been with the devastation of lives in a country I know nothing about. And a holiday I've celebrated on todays date with out knowing why! I'll enjoy blogging with you I'm sure. Great.

I knew ariala would be attracted by your post because she was born in Morocco. I have been to the country many many times, on business and as a visitor, at one point I came very close to buying a riat in Fez, but refrained in the end because of legal problems. It was part of an inheritance and my lawyer was unsure how many beneficiaries were there, so I left alone. About women: I met some very accomplished and powerful business women in Casablanca and of course, not a hint of a veil. If you ever go back, avoid the beaches and the tourist centres and go for Ouazazat and Zagora. It's between the Atlas mountains and the desert. For transport, hire a taxi or private driver. It is much cheaper, you can stop where you want, they don't take you to tourist traps where you are urged to buy stuff you don't want. I did that on all my extensive travel throughout the country. They don't even mind overnight stays, the only thing that can happen is that they ask you if they can bring the wife(s) because they might take to opportunity to visit relatives. The wife (s) will bring home cooked food, so you have a fantastic picknick on the road. Sorry, I got carried away, but I just love Morrocco.

I was born there in Casablanca...been back twice, but was just a kid.
My fondest memories were of spending the night in our bungalow on the beach...What a gorgeous beach with rocks and a strong tide...I remember swimming among the tidepools between the rocks at low tide.  My grandparents owned a winery and store there. It closed years ago.  Anyway, thanks for the memories...
