Why didn't God just tell them how to cook the pork right?
Did he figure they were just too stupid to understand?
I would have thought it easier to tell them how to do it right rather than give them some rule against it.

old and new covenant
The old testament is full of "rules" but they were in place at that time for logical reasons; for example your synopsis of the eating pork thing; yes that is nearly accurate. When Moses was traveling through the desert for all those years with his crew, they obviously had no means of preserving the meat (or anything else) and they had to follow other guidelines for their food or suffer the consequences such as death from food poisining. Of course the times and situations changed after that.

But of course when Christ was born, the "old" covenant was not necessary because Christ fulfilled the "law". But sexual immorality was even more prevelant, such as it is now. So, like always, I take the word of God for truth and fact; if He said sex outside of marriage is a sin, then it's a sin-period.

I think that is the wrong way to look at things.
Two consenting adults should be able to enjoy themselves and have a moment of pleasure if they so please. If they are smart and use protection then I do not see anything wrong with it.

If you look back at the rules in the Bible you can see a logical reason why they were created. A good example is the 'Don't eat pork' rule. Most likely people were getting sick from eating pork and had no idea why it was happening. We now know that is you under cook pork it can make you sick. So someone comes along and makes a rule then claims it is God's rule, that way everyone is more likely to follow it without question. But at some point we realized it was no longer a needed rule and we decided to say we did not have to follow it any longer, with the exception of those who still believe it to be God's rule. Some of the ten commandments are rules that just make sense. I would think any intelligent scociety would create such rules to live by, but by saying it to be God's word more poeple take them seriously. Although I do not need to be told by God that murder is wrong or that I should honor my mother and father.

See my next post for what I think of each commandment.

Since I don't follow God's rules, I get a lot more enjoyment out of life I feel than those who worry that they might be sining.

An answer
As a Christian, a Pastor and a soon to be remarried woman; Sex outside of marriage is sin; according to God. Sex was to be for the marriage bed. Sex outside of marriage is considered fornication and immoral. See Matthew 15:19, 1 Corinthians 5: 9-11 and 6:9 and 6:18,

My husband and I lived together for a year and a half
and he insisted that his mother not know. While I accused him of being spineless, I was being insensitive to the fact that he did not want to burst his mother's little bubble of a world. Considering she is one of the few parents who truly protected her children from unnecessay emotional trauma like divorce or family scandal, I say she did deserve that and he is a great guy for treating his mom so well.
