Re: Elyse
So true...I agree it does take a lot of time...I have been calling family member back east and finding little bits of knowledge that have slowly been working out..I am sure we are linked some way...

Wigopa/Marion  ~ Wow, Prussia ~ So wonderful --- so much history there.  I am so enthused, enthralled...albeit, I have some mighty warriours digging in our line...I just have been privvy to the info when they send out their fliers and cd's etc.  I will continue following, however.  It requires so much work I find when studying lineage.  as you say, certain links just drop off.  My father is of cajun french history, now that is really hard to research......lots of history there.  I love to see this...I'll be watching ~ Thank you Wigopa for sharing.  We must all be linked somehow I feel Elyse

Re: Cheugon
Then we have something in common..My father was not a big part of my life..I found that my mother is the one to give me parental advice and love..Geneaolgy is a great way to "get to know that other missing half"..I hope you get the chance to one day look..

Re: Voque
Almost everyone has some type of nasty ancestor in their background..That is the way of things..But everyone finds different things to interest themselves..Yes my granddad did hord guns..I found out that he was on the a bombardment regiment that went all over Europe during WWII..could be the reason he did that..Thanks for stopping in!

Re: Jmh256
Wow! I wonder what kind of DNA test it was?  Geneaology is an interesting thing sometimes..You could find out that one family member actually did something in a major part of history..(Haven't found that yet but "it could happen")  Thank you!

Another, your second Kudos!! from Bhaskar for finding you prussian lineage

The lineages may be indistinct...you are the pallbearer and messenger for those who tread before you! Do them 'proud' (not ego)!

I only know...
...my mothers side of the family as I don't know who my father was. I guess that's one reason why genealogy has always fascinated me.

It's very interesting to find out where one comes from, althoug I personally really don't want to know. I may discover some very nasty ancestors, who knows. So, your granddad hoarded guns. Thanks for your comment my dear.

My family recently ran some kind of DNA test. I didn't understand any of it. My dad is retired now though and really enjoys doing geneology

I share your heritage pretty much, love. I adore the Native American descent, including three credits in the history of the North American Indian. However, I only share your other origins. Maybe someday you'll watch my film at least. Thank you so much.

Native American genealogy is extremely challenging, what stands out
most is exactly what you mentioned...how things just seem to drop off at a point...as a researcher (since 1985) the way things take a dive is not only personally disappointing; with me, that sudden drop of information only serves to spur me on to dig even further than what the textbooks will tell you is available...even if the histories are available only through word of mouth of those family or friends of family yet living (and I know that going that route many times leads to small bits of information), it has always been my standing that the smallest piece of information can lead to bigger things...in other words, wherever you are in your search, never allow the distance (or lack of evidence) to drain you of the spirit which led you into your search...I wish you both (wigopa and Elysian) the best of luck.

Wigopa
I’ve often thought of doing some digging and finding out more about my family tree (Ukrainian and Scottish) but I’ve always viewed it as such an undertaking.  Good for you for going back as far as the 1600’s on the Prussian side!
