TAPS, no I had
not seen the aquariums that fit on my toilet tank! Nor do I want to! I don't need little fishy eyes watching me when I'm occupied there, I like my privacy, and even the drapes don't help - I can just hear them snickering...

Lovely, Kabu. We're gonna keep little lambs in their little pens as well, of course - but they're for the second course...

Re:
Interesting thought, Sira! Why don't people have lobsters as pets? Is it because their appetite grows too quickly and overpowers the thin strands of emotional attachment to them before they take a firm hold?

LOL, Pat! You were definitely showing greater concern for their feelings then the swimmers generally have for one another, what with being more in the cannibalistic vain and all...

Well, the same dilema applies to chickens and rabbits in the backyard, no? Shall we hack off Lizzy's head or gut Roger tonight? If I have to have meat or fish I prefer the anomimity of restaurnt food or else--fruit and vegetable. On second thoughts, fruit have names too!

That is just terrible...what are you supposed to do? Feed the little darlings and grow close to them, watch them swim around and around and then...when they grow, EAT them!! Terrible. Only a French man would think of such a thing. (
and I can say that, my grandmama was French) There is a difference when you buy the fish already dead. This would be like eating your dog! Great post!!!

um...oh no
NAUT ~ how utterly cruel you think? (reminds me of a story...in short: went to a ranch for a weekend - friends together (big chill type scene you know) and there is old "Stan" --- a huge pig. He's part of the party, all weekend...in and out, grazing for snacks and food and well he was even with a bib on - allowed to eat near our table. ---Sunday morn and the party starts to end. Where's Stan? Needless to say, I left when they served up huge slices of ham and thick bacon for breakfast meat.

) I don't think this would be for me...

Nautikos, I think I've said it before, but I'll say it again. I love your comments. I guess you've already seen the fish aquariums that fit on your toilet tank. Son #3 just recently installed a large aquarium as a division between two rooms and installed drapes on both sides so he could pull the drapes on one side or the other if he wanted to. LOL. If he feels the fish need privacy, he can close both sets of drapes.

I like Kabu's comment!
As for naming food, it reminds me of the fad of the moment in Germany about two white bear cubs that were rescued and now live in two different zoos in the said country.
A few weeks ago, Flokon (one the BEAR) was old enough to start eating real food and there was a big media circus about it: young kids from all over Germany came to see Flokon, playing in his swimming pool and having the time of its life. The kids were also enjoying themself until.... Flokon (did I mentionned that he is a POLAR BEAR?) decided to actually EAT a fish from the swimming pool! Can you imagine something more cruel than a white POLAR BEAR eating a FISH? Well, the kids, thinking that the BEAR was one of them and could not possibly play with another living being, started crying their eyes out! If this is not "Bambi-syndrom" all over again, what is???
As for eating "named food", we looked after sheep sometime for friends, and ate at least two acquaintances. They tasted just fine. Thank you!
And thanks for your comments on my web-site. You were right again (damn you)!

I am usually against eating the cat, dog or the goldfish. Yuck! If it is in a bowl in my house it is a gold fish regardless of it's real identity.

I once had an aquarium in the dining room. It felt very weird to eat
fish in front of the swimmers. I don't think the aquarium marketing plan is going to do well because we tend to get attached to pets, even fish.
