Population shifts and economic wars will still favor the Western Powers,
poteen, and the Far Eastern Powers.  South America, Africa, and the Middle East are screwed if it comes down to an every nation for themselves mentality...

US is the Roma Nova...
History resembles nature in its gradual evolution: If USA is the historical equivalent of the T-Rex, it had better start thinking about looking at the environment that has changed about it. Not just USA; all thoe dinosaurs (UK, France - Western Europe in general actually) that think things will stay habitable and hospitable just because it worked that way in the past had better check their thermometer now.

Sure we do, Glennb. We call it America. You go along with us or we
ostracize, marginalize, invade, or sanction you.  When you go along, you become the servant of the economic machine that is the U.S.

Probably not, TAPS. It has been the lot of slaves to be considered less
than human and as mere property...

Re: Not for Rome, cheugon, and not for the U.S. And if Rome was too long
The British definitely had a case of overstretch.

Not for Rome, cheugon, and not for the U.S. And if Rome was too long
ago for our myopic revisionists, then how about our greatest allies, the British?

Saul Relative,
You have again brought a very timeless quote to the light! Very well done. It holds true that in every incursion the ruling class is usually first into exile and then bondage! I am not sure we have an equal in modern man???

Hmmmm, did Claudian not consider their slaves as part of the human race?

SHARING MY VIEW BELOW ON THE SUBJECT MY FRIENDS...ASH..
History shows that all empires eventually come to an end, and a new world order emrges..for empires have always been formed at the exploitation of the less priviledged at that time..Roman, British, Chinese, Hindu, Ottoman, Muslim..all have gone thru that..no wonder our American one is having so much trouble..the fundamental truth is we are all God's children..there are no chosen few..we are all equal in God's heart..because we are a part of Him, made of Him..to think & act otherwise is grossly kidding oneself..oh..but somehow humanity insists on learning it's lessons the hard way..so be it if that's God's will, best to all - Ash

Rome and Romans are difficult to trust! Their system underpins the modern world! And, look at the mess!

Imperial overstretch was a factor...
...in Rome's decline as it is in America's. Benevolent or otherwise, the end does not justify the means.

But when we think
of Rome we should remember the slaves, the brutal military conquests, the constant imperial domination of the senate. Dominance, decadence, decline, destruction. Come to think of it, you're right...
