It is related to a variety of languages. Look at the similarity to English:
"My hand is in warm water."
This can be read in English and Afrikaans. The only difference in meaning is the word "warm" which when read in Afrikaans would be closer to the english "hot" or if read in English would be closer to the Afrikaans word "lou" which corresponds to "luke warm" in English.
"My pen is in my hand."
Same spelling and same meaning. Only different in pronunciation.
