AA, when u complete your version, read Th. Jefferson's edited Bible. He was
a DEIST and loved the moral teachings of Jesus, and rejected miracles and "hocus-pocus" in the Bible, allegedly. SHALOM

actually, the Gospels portray a pretty real personage
there is a personality showing through, one that, were we not brainwashed with a traditional view of the person, can be pretty well psychoanalyzed.
It's just that the writers come from a personal viewpoint and inject their personal views into the Gospels; also, it seems that perhaps others have added onto the original writing.
I tend to see that there was more room for discussion in the Jewish world (much debate over the Torah) and differing sects (Essenes come to mind). Also, the Greek world was open to discussion and debate, thus the Apostle Paul's success.
It is when, as you said, explicit statements against the status quo are made that free speech ends.
