No, it doesn't look good, FYS. But the two are tied together.
Authoritative dictatorial rule by the most powerful nation on the planet works the same way both domestically and internationally.  When making unilateral decisions and suppressing dissent and bad press are the only avenues a government affords itself, then that government must be confronted and redirected.

Restoring U.S.' prestige....
I think this should be the last thing we should be worrying about, when our freedom is at stake.  Congress has been churning out legislation that grants the executive branch more and more power, and now the Supreme Court (link courtesy of Xeno-x) has blurred the line regarding our Fourth Amendment rights.  Things don't look good for our nation.

Yeah, majestic, but they voted that idiot back into office in 2004,
regardless of how he got in back in 2000.  Whoever is elected in November, whether it be a Democrat or a Republican has got one helluvan uphill climb to restore the U.S.' prestige -- everywhere.

We need to clean house, ZenMom. We need to show the world that we're
not going to allow our own people to violate international law, international human rights laws, and our own constitution.  Until we hold our own people (and, unfortunately, Bush, Cheney, and Co. are "our" people) accountable for their many crimes, the rest of the world will continue to despise us as the grandstanding, hypocritical, bully in the room.

Rumsfeld and a bunch of others have already been brought up before
the World Court, Glennb, and the Court refused to hear the case (Germany).  This will become a matter of politics.  Many nations' leaders will get a lot of mileage out of slamming the U.S. for years about the Bush administration's heavy-handed unilateral foreign policy.  They will threaten and condemn.  But they will not bring the president of the U.S. up on charges.  Although I believe that they should.  He, Rice, Rumsfeld, Wolfowicz, Cheney, and anybody else that helped formulate the idea of invading Iraq and ultimately carrying it out should be brought up on charges.  As for his, Cheney's, Ashcroft's, Gonzalez', Yoo's and others demolition of our constitution, they should be brought up on charges of treason.

Saul Relative,
You keep saying this man will not be prosecuted for war crimes! What about treason, and complete disregard for the rule of law?
