Catholic Charities
Hi FYS - thanks for commenting on my very emotional blog, by the way.  One of my very dearest friends (we call each other "sister of the heart") runs a very well-endowed family foundation for Catholic Charities.  She just joined a group of women on a visit to the Vatican to dialog about lay women's role in the Catholic Church.  She is one of the most giving, sensible people I know - a true representative of what it means to be a caring human being and one who practices her religion; attributes that need not be diametrically opposed as many on this site would have you believe!!

Re: Hi FYS
whirlwind, absolutely.  I never begrudge people getting a salary for working full-time for a charity.  They need to eat and live as well.  Here Catholic parishes also release their financials to the parishoners.  I think it's a smart practice.

Hi FYS
In Malaysia, charitable organisations run by the church have accounted for and audited accounts made public to the congregation after each audit term. However there are provisions for administrative expenses which are basically for the staff running the organisation or expenses incurred by church which I feel is necessary for the charitable programs to be successful.

This is good info.
In the past, I solved that problem by giving to my favorite charity, Me. However, that not only is not a great way to be a steward, but it's not even tax deductible.

Re:
hi sam, actually, you're doing well with World Vision--Because they're based in the US, you can search them on Charity Navigator.  You'll be pleased to know that they're rated well above the standard.

You make a good point. I give to World Vision. I have always trusted it was good. I cannot vouch with first hand knowledge however!  sam
