Benzinha, they used to sell a plastic device like a washboard.
The dog or cat wold scratch it and get their message through without tearing the door up.

maj, just today I looked at the doors that the dogs have scratched since I first or last put wood putty on about two years ago ( I have lived here about four or five years now) and then painted and I realized that the time has come for another smoothing over of door injuries, with paint, too.
I always plan to put a metal plate over the scratch area and I should. Maybe this time....a copper plate. Four of them for the front and back doors, inside and out. Dogs!!! Naw, copper is too soft.
I was hoping at this older age to be doing so well financially that I would be paying some lovely Mexican fellow to do it all for me. My girlfriend across town has her Arturo doing everything for her and I am jealous. She calls him and he builds for her and does things intuitively and correctly and well.
They did a little rain dance and cheered under her new misting system inside her new hoopla house in her side garden. Green with envy, me.
