Re: Re: I didn't realize "contract" workers were entitled to
Yes, I know ... full time being the operative words - but if I take a contract job here in the states, I am responsible for my own taxes and unemployment after the contract expires is not an option.  I am most likely confused - I will research more.  Thank you for replying :)

Vickie, If you are a full time employee for any American corporation, they are required to pay  your social security, medicare, medicaid, and  unemployment taxes. That's the law. These requirements are designed to protect America's working class.

Afzal for the past 8 years we Americans have been in the hands of a group of people who have no interest in a "just" society.

Re: The "lumpen" have no power, Cynthia. It is only through people
Saul, the problem is most of the people who are hurt by such governmental practices do not understand the direct consequences to their quality of life when they keep voting these people (by "these people" I generally mean Republicans) back in office.

The "lumpen" have no power, Cynthia. It is only through people

willing to stand up to an injustice that the lumpen get protected at all.  Part of the growing economic woes in this country is due to this corporate taxation shell game that is being played.  Our government, who set up the rules and regulations whereby these corporations do this, pays these same corporations billions of dollars, never to see that money again in any form, not even in taxes.  In this day and age of globalization, no defense contract should be given any country operating under any type of tax structure that allows them nonpayment of taxes or uses as its taxable location a foreign country.  Period.  And KBR and the U.S. government should pay these people.  This is just another fine example of Bush cronyism and corporate mentality causing far more harm than it could ever be worth.

Now, explain to me again, how exactly was Bush elected president?  And a second time?

The dispensable 'proletariat' doesn't matter. Sad!
