Exactly....once again, we see an example of the misuse of scripture.
The bible is not some book of wonder and mystery that dropped from the sky; it is a compilation of varied texts having varied authorship, existing as a historical record of a people and a documentation of their understanding of faith. It simply cannot be done, nor should it be done.
Creationists claim that the universe is less than 10,000 years old. Forget the fossil record for a second--just look at the ancient city of Jericho, the oldest city in the world. It's existence dates back to at least 11,000 years as a matter of record--Jericho has been inhabited continuously since 9000 BC.; additional archeological findings indicate that the city had been abandonded and reinhabited several times.
What does this indicate? That Jericho is a post-flood city--continuously inhabited--pushing the date of the "great flood" way further into the past than the mere 3000-4000 BC which creationists accept. Add to this the pre-flood stories of scripture, where at least one civilization rose and fell, and none of it fits.

strat - my primary objection to this trend is based on what could be the
end results.
When our societies end up with a huge demographic of deluded and brainwashed knuckleheads, who view science as the enemy and are insistent on promoting ignorance as fact . . . what do we do with them? At what point do their sheer numbers impede the rest of society in making the technological and scientific advancements we need to compete in global markets?

FineYoungSinger - I fully agree, the underlying tenets are all but obscured
by a desire to reconcile every word with a world that does not fully comply.
When it is considered what compels this thought process, in the notion that scientific truths that do not support this reconciliation are somehow acting as an impediment to spreading the word of God, constructing misinformation is inevitable. In that regard, the bible or any holy doctrine for that matter, can become nothing more than a cloud of ignorance if the agenda for its advancement as the sole source of truth becomes detached from reality. This is clearly the case in instances such as described in this post and with creationist museums in general. Particularly disturbing is how elaborate the levels of fabrication have become. There is not one mention of the new world (North America) for example, in the bible to be found anywhere. It is a chronicle centered upon an historical backdrop of the ancient middle east, yet the groundswell of pro-active creationism misinformation emanates from and is centered around the North American continent.

ZenMom - it is a recent trend that is gaining a disturbing momentum
The tip of the iceberg in organizations dedicated to spreading nonsense as fact can be found in this list of existing creationist museums:

Fine Young Singer nailed it.
I suppose any widespread disinformation is disturbing, but the way this bunch is going about it makes it that much more disturbing.

you know, gomedome, this whole issue reminds me of the gospel story
where Jesus overturned the money changers in the temple. Many believe that He was displaying objection to commerce in the temple, but that's not it at all. The things being sold in the temple were lambs, doves, etc., to be used in the temple for sacrifice. It became about show and politics when it should have been about personal worship.
This is how I see these tours---let's use the bible not for private devotion and for spiritual growth; let's instead use it as a platform for political display.
