I think that the Unbearable Lightness deals more or less with the same issues - the laws we impose on ourselves and laws that are imposed upon us (by government or by education). And yes, I had the same associations.
Well, maybe it's the catchy title of the book. It sticks to just about anything :)

Reminds me more of "The Unbearable Lightness of Being"
at the end and of "Doctor Zhivago" at the start. Interesting reflections.
