Re: Sira 890

Justi,

"odd" is a very polite way of saying what she is. I'm hoping that her boys will grow up to treat others with respect and kindness, regardless of the lessons they learn from their mother.

Thanks for reading, and for the lovely comment!

This person is odd. It appears to me here sons will see how she treats others no matter how she treats them, that will bode well for adulthood do you think. You sound like a lovely and charming person. Be blessed.

Re: Sira890

Wiley,

Thanks for reading, and for the compliments--it means a lot, especially coming from you!

I'm glad I was right. And not just because I like being right (which I do!), but because the calls meant so much, and brought a little extra happiness to my adopted Dad

You just described my oldest living sister to a 'T', so I know how you feel. You are one terrific writer, and I enjoy your wonderful humour, your bang on advice to this old man, because all of my daughters called me to day just as you said they would. O.K. I'll go be quiet now.

Re: Sira

Naut,

When she announced that she was pregnant, she seemed to be approaching motherhood with a horrible attitude. She talked about the baby like it was another possession--no different from her fancy car or priceless antiques.

She did a complete 180, and devoted her life to taking care of those boys, which is great.

I think it's also important to remember that my uncle has done the same, and spends as much time as possible with his sons. Since he's the exact opposite of his wife, I'm guessing he's played a big part in keeping them grounded and sweet.

That being said, we are starting to see bits of her in Cole (the eldest boy)--he's surprisingly materialistic for a child, and highly competitive in everything from schooling to sports. She encourages him, of course, but my uncle also makes sure things don't get too out of hand. He's quick to interject when Cole starts bragging too much, and reminds him regularly that there are more important things that being First in everything.

Re: Hmmm.

Azur,

There is a part of me that wants him there, for back-up. But I know how frustrated he gets with her, and I don't like sticking him in the middle of my family's politics--he's got enough of that in his own family

Thanks for reading!

Re: I hope you enjoy the time with your uncle in spite of that woman...

Pat,

Since my sister will be there as well, I should be able to spend most of the time talking to my uncle, and leave Dani to chat with her.

Thanks for reading!

When I read this yesterday I didn't leave a comment because I was amazed by the contradictions that reside in this woman, or at least in your post. Your initial description of her - well, I've met women like that. But I have never met one that, at the same time, was a mother to "really fantastic kids. Bright, happy, friendly, sweet little boys" and who "actually quit her job as a nurse and has been a full time mom since day one. And she really does love those little boys more than anything."  Really nasty women do not usually have sweet kids...So I actually thought about this some more, but still haven't come to any conclusions...

Hmmm.
No love lost there then. I think Mark should go with you and help you take her on. Seeing as she is not his relative he could do it with detachment. Could be fun

I hope you enjoy the time with your uncle in spite of that woman...
Every family has one of those, which puts an edge on holidays and get-togethers. It will be good to see the benefits of your good internet again...  :)pat
