Good morning straightforward,

I think punctuality and lateness are learned behaviors.  I was taught that punctuality is simply the kindest, most respectful way to treat someone.  If one is late, an explanation is respectful as well.

I spend half of my life waiting on others. The virtue of punctuality, not for nothing called "the courtesy of kings" doesn't seem to be very far spread. Every time I wait and wait, I swear to become unpunctual myself, but I just can't!!

It's rude and arrogant to be late for other people be it coffee with a
friend, a lunch date or an appointment, or work. In all other things let life just unflod. That's why I love retirement so much.

Straightforward, all my life until I retired at age 67, I was punctual for everything, always.  It was a whole lot more difficult when I had four preschoolers than it was later when I only had myself to worry about, but I adjusted and was never late for anything.  However, when I retired, something in me changed.  I threw away my watch (never wear one now) and became a whole lot more flexible without guilt feelings of being late.

I operate on Indian time, which means, basically, that I don't allow that
prison guard on the wall to dictate where and when I need to be somewhere or do something.  I am the typical nonpunctual, habitually late person.  However, knowing the time does come in handy when I want to watch American Idol or need to be at a job interview.  It's a mad, mad, mad balance...

I think being on time is respectful. Those who are always tardy are not organized and don't seek to get organized. sam
