Thank you for your comment. --There is, indeed, too much pessimism and unhappiness in the world but, I believe, there are enough "cockeyed optimists" to balance the equation. Peace and blessings.

SS, Your granddaughter got a taste of pessimism and unhappiness...hopefully, she won't run into much of that. There is a lot of it out there. Might as well be a "cockeyed optimist", in my opinion. Much more fun and brings all kinds of happiness, faith and hope.

Re: Dave ~.~
I appreciate your goodwill. However, I can't stand blinders by whatever name they come. I was taught by my teachers to see WHAT IS. This to me is vital. If I can't see the truth and live with it, then I am a failure. Rose colored blinders is selective seeing. We differ, but then we do agree on other things!

Thank you for your response. --I believe, however, that approaching life optimistically, as opposed to pessimistically, is more rewarding (and mentally healthier.) At least, if things do go wrong, you will have had peace of mind up to that point and you are better equipped to handle disappointment. (I think of it as a balanced psyche.) The opposite approach results in cynicism, bitterness, and the belief that everyone and everything is against you. Peace and blessings.

Thank you! --I was a little concerned about how my granddaughter would be affected by the interview, but, after the initial shock of the man's first response, I relaxed and was actually proud of her as she continued her questioning. I guess the fact that she has a loving and supportive family, and reads constantly, is why she has gained knowledge beyond her years. Peace and blessings.

Well by reading the comments and responses I know your Grandaughter handled it well, and that was my first concern when I first read your post. It can be hard for a child at the age of optimism to face a jerk like that. But hey, like she said Soul, who knows what happened to him so you have the right attitude, lets pray for him :-) Great post.

I looked for the CYNIC in the poem...I just couldn't find him. Life goes through its cycles. That's a fact. Why should I seek to dwell in the upside of things when the downside inevitably follows. Then there is the saying that the more things change, the samer things are. There are things that need to be changed, but we never get to that point! Interesting topic!

Yes, very sad -- but my granddaughter handled it fine (she's 14). She just wondered what could have made him so miserable. Thank you for your comment.

Thanks, sam ~.~
There were many different responses to the question..from many different people; but none with such a dim and hopeless view of life. I pray for him.

It certainly IS a cynic's view! Very well written! It should be used in the
schools project-on 'change'! Great.Chris.

Or as David Bowie might say
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Don't want to be a richer man
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Just gonna have to be a different man
Time may change me
But I can't trace time
