Re: Sira

Naut,

She really is a fun lady! I don't know about the dancing, but I'm sure she'll have a few at the party--we're having a case of her favorite wine brought in, and I doubt there will be even a drop left by the end of the night!

I think the lack of physical activity is one of the biggest downfalls of our technology--kids (and adults) aren't playing like they used to, and that's a shame.

Sira
Your Mom sounds like fun! She sounds like she's gonna have a few and dance up a storm at her birthday bash! And she's right, we didn't have all the stuff kids have today, but we weren't bored, and we got a lot more exercise. Having to get up constantly to change the channel keeps you busy and in shape...

Re: The funniest thing is, Sira...

ginnie, you make some excellent points!

Your generation certainly did create many of the things that are "spoiling" me. I didn't ask for debit machines or internet--they were handed to me!

And my generation is already well on the way to improving on the original designs, or inventing all new technology. And when I have grandkids, I'll probably be telling them how easy they have it, with their fancy flying cars and "Jetson's style" cooking!

Re: Sira890

Wiley,

I know my grandpa used to tell her all the time that "she had it so easy!". I guess every generation thinks that about their kids.

I like today too. We have a lot of freedom, and the change to make some great choices. There will come a time when we have to "pay the piper" for our conveniences, and the costs may be steep. But what's life without a few consequences

The funniest thing is, Sira...
..is that it was our generation who invented all this stuff so we must have been bored as children!  Ha!  I remember the day we got our first colour television and it was so exciting.  I can't figure that any generation is spoiled because there are more 'things' to use and to do because it's not like anyone asked for it...it was invented and it's being used.  And the generation with all this 'stuff' will only invent more and then say their kids are spoiled!  You can't win..haha!

Sira890

Your mum had it good luv, I'm way older and there just wasn't any TV at all.

But you know what? I like today, and the TV, computer, and seeing my kids doing well without the guilt of religion stopping them from enjoying all that life has to offer.

My way of life had a price tag with things like divorce, and I paid it. They too will have price tags for their way of life, but I am happy for them living their lives as they choose, all the same.

LOL Mac!

I don't actually know what an Atari is, but I do know that Mom grew up without any TV at all. Shocking, I know!

We're throwing her a 60th Birthday Bash this year. In my humble opinion, that is old...

Now, before any of you get your shorts in a knot: YES, I know 60 isn't actually that old. I mean, it's not like she was hunting dinosaurs for lunch, or present at the last supper. But compared to me, it's old.

Re: Mama is right! And she's also funny as heck.

Pat, my mother has a great sense of humor, that's for sure!

I couldn't agree more--kids are supposed to be outside, playing and scraping their knees!

Your mum must be very young.  She had an Atari AND Channel television???   She hasn't a clue how lucky she was.

Mama is right! And she's also funny as heck.
Maybe we were better off when TV wasn't so enthralling and the neighborhood kids were getting up a ball game or playing war games in the woods nearby. In the good old days, I kept the first-aid kit full of antiseptic cream and band-aids, and learned how to treat sprains and bruises with the best of 'em. Boys...
