Re: My Heart goes out to you,

Thanks Kaboom!

I think there's some form of age discrimination in most cultures. Its sad that people are made to feel badly because of something as silly as age, be it young or old.

Take care, and thanks for reading

Re: Sira

Mac,

Not the purse. That thing was expensive--no way I'm risking getting his "boogies" all over it! But the wallet was heading in that general direction, yes.

I'm sorry that Ell gets treated poorly too. But she's lucky to have your support--there are a few husbands/boyfriends who wouldn't walk out with their ladies.

Thanks for reading!

My Heart goes out to you,
and you did the right thing!  Man, but I could do with a little looking younger than my age right about now!  Sigh, I hate looking in the mirror these days....  Age discrimination is rampant here, but it's kinda the opposite.  After a cetain age you are un-hireable, un-marriageable, so it really doesn't pay to be a free-lance single.  It really is horrible, and I admire free-lance singles SO much, unfortunately many are homeless.....

Did you say the purse was going to go up his 'nose?'  Ell has the same type of problem when we go shopping for electronics.  She's the professional but they talk through her.   It is infuriating, and we've walked out of quite a few stores.

Re: Sira890

Wiley, you still look way too young for your age!!

I'm touched and honored by those lovely words--you're daughters are lucky to have such a great dad, and I'm lucky to have you as a reader, a friend, and a "surrogate father"!

Sira890

I always looked too young for my age too luv and I remember what it was like, but it's even worse for a female person. But you did precisely the right thing about it by going to management and shring your horrid experience with the. Good for you, what a dumb salesman, a freakin' Neanderthal butt head.

I think you are marvelous to have handled it all yourself and I'm as proud of you as if you were one of my 6 daughters luv.

Re: Sira

Naut,

You're right--he should have done a 180 when he realized that his impression was wrong. He is a poor judge of people, among other things (which I will not list, as this is a "family show"). I'm not sure he even realized what happened, until I'd left.

If his managers anger was any indication though, I'm confident that Mr. Bad Attitude will get what's coming to him.

Re: So you can (will) get older and look "wiser." But you'll still be female.

Well, Pat, I can't say that makes me feel much better about things. Mark seconds your opinion that it was because of gender as much as age.

I might as well assume the "dumb blond" stance and be done with it--you're right, they will find themselves outdone in the end, even if I am young and in possession of female organs!

Thanks for reading

Looks can be deceiving, but the guy should have realized that his first impression was wrong as soon as he started talking to you! That he didn't adjust quickly and correctly shows that he's a very poor judge of people, not good if you're a salesman...

Do not be dismayed over short-sightedness. You are a great person and even though it is tough for young people take your time and enjoy the elan of the day every day!  sam

So you can (will) get older and look "wiser." But you'll still be female.
Not all that condesension was because you're young. It's a thing with car salesmen and car guys in general that women know zip about cars and even less about financing and money. It's probably to your advantage to play the silly woman card, let him think he's oh, so smart. It's so much fun to out-negotiate them at the bottom line.
