No, his answer won't count on the test. That's the problem with standardized testing. You have to fit in the box.

You sound like a wonderful teacher! I gave up teaching after twenty years of public school special ed, but the boy you write about sounds like my daughter. And what a difference a few well timed words can do to make a child feel good about him or herself!
