Changing the establishment starts with the will, Justi. Problem is,
do any of the current candidates have the will? Two say they do. One says he'll do much the same as the guy in charge. Simplistic, yes, but accurate. And the war in Iraq (and the one talked about with Iran) are about economic hegemony and geopolitical control of natural resources. Most of the world's oil is in the Middle East. We control it by our presence. Who makes the money? Take a look at who Bush and Cheney have appointed to government positions -- all connected through corporate boards and politics. It is always about commerce, money, and access to future commodities. The Iraq War, the Alaskan Wildlife Refuge, the North American Union, the changing of the Clean Air Act, the Chinese trade deficit -- all of it. War is business. Oil is business. Chinese toy manufacturing is business. Mountain-toppin and strip mining is business. The United States has been using its military and economic might for half a century now to dominate world affairs. They'll do it as long as they're able. Business as usual...

The candidates have always been bent on saying what people wanted to hear, but this year there is more lying than can fit in the campaign I believe. I have this forboding that a wrong vote and this country will be changed in a way none of us expected forever.

To be honest, I find that this is a difficult election to choose a candidate. In your opinion's favor, the 1964 election's an interesting case. Barry Goldwater was the war candidate. Lyndon B. Johnson promised peace.

I really don't think they are so closeted. They want the government to be the sugar-daddy to the whole country except the working poor which they call middle class.

Are they closet socialists?
Having the government try and take the earnings of a major oil and gas company seems, to me anyways, to be a sharp turn towards socialism, rather than the principles of capitalism that built the nation. Exxon is a publicly traded company. Millions of people reep the benefits of their huge profit margin every day. Hillary's probably just sore with them because she wasn't smart enough to buy stock when it was selling at a good price!
Just once, I'd like to see a leader who has a real understanding of economics.
On the bright side (for you guys anyway) the American's will likely be seeing an upturn in drilling and production pretty soon. Since the oh-so-charming Alberta government announced their plan to increase the taxes on our conventional market, the big guys (like Exxon) are taking their business and heading south.
