I am not sure but how could something you say to someone cause harm to them?

I thought i read somewhere that a curse will not work unless the person you
curse believes in the curse.  And i imagine there are a million different ways to curse someone besides wishing them dead or harmed.  Sometimes when someone does something that hurts me i wish that what goes around comes around to them.  I guess that could be considered a curse.  Backbiting is certainly a curse for the person you are gossiping about.

What a person sends out comes back to them. I also believe faith and
God can protect us from those who deem as evil and harm
