Kabu..
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this. I think it is right to say that it is the next generations that keep us truly immortal. Thank you for stopping by, and for the great comments.

All I know is that after my parents died I wept tears of joy when their
great grandchildren started to arrive. To me it would keep the Gene pool living.

Re: To me, Wogopa, love is a way of the sexes to reproduce themselves
Bhaskar.ing, your words also ring true. Our need to reproduce is primal feeling, which can be powerful. Thank you for the great comments and for stopping by.

To me, Wogopa, love is a way of the sexes to reproduce themselves
and thus to prolong time into eternity.to plant the seed of immortality in the mortal body. The lover is eager not only to find beauty but to create it, to perpetuate it. Also a line of Celine Dion's song: Immor-tality
I make my journey through eternity
I keep the memory of you and me inside.

Thought provoking poem, beautifully written :-) Immortality you ask, well, I think immortality is seeing yourself reflected in your grandchild's eyes, seeing a gesture, a look that you instantly recognize as yours, and knowing that you will live on in his heart, and that he will tell  stories of you to his grandchild as you tell him now tales of your grandparents.  Immortality is the continuity of life, but not in the self centered way of one living forever in physical form, though that would be nice wouldn't it :-), no, to me immortality belongs to the soul, to the essence of who we are. That alone can live for ever. and since Love, true Love comes from our soul, that too can be immortal., exist for all eternity. Take care of you

Re: it's hard to ask question such intense as this dear wigopa.....
Purple! glad to see you again. I agree I was a little worried about putting this on here, seeing as how it was so out there. I agree though one's soul is what people should be judged on. If they are true to themselves and others then they are great people. Thank you for stopping by! Missed you..

Thank you for the kind words and I too hope that we will find bliss in the next life, if we all are that lucky.

Thank you for the great comments and for reading. I pondered this a lot too, while I was working with it. I am glad that you enjoyed reading it.

Re: soulspeaker
I remember reading Paul a while ago, and that line did come to me after I wrote the first draft of this poem. Funny you should mention it. Thank you for reading and the great comments!

Re: LIIKE HOW THIS FOLDS TOGETHER INTO UNSEEN CENTERFOLD
John, thank you for reading and being your chronic editor. I find that you really make me think about, how and why the stanzas work the way they do. Also you are right about the ongoing completion. I have switched this backwards and forwards about as many times as I did with the Runner. I will email you with more... Thanks again.

You know this is a very thoughtful - poignant poem dear Poet.  It is something I question at times...Oh I love where I am...I am an observer, a worker, a lover of life but, I also pray that I will find bliss when I leave this earth ~  it's a difficult question for me to answer but, wow, do you make me think...and I appreciate this ~Elyse

"Never to feel earth's deep embrace..."  Your profound words ring in my ears.  I will hear those words many times more...the crux of the matter.  We get caught up in the "ratrace of life" and forget to enjoy nature and relationships, the important people in our lives, the small things we do for them that give them joy...we forget to tell our important people that we love them, and get caught up in coveting and petty jealousies of others who are not even our important people...Makes no sense, when joy and love would bring such wonderful moments to our lives.  I love those words that you have written.  Thanks for giving me thoughts to ponder.  Ger

Which questions do I ask?  --Why do we hold on to this life so desperately? Why are we so materialistic? Why do we miss the forest and see the trees? Most people want this life to continue forever--the sites, the sounds, the tastes, the smells, the feelings. But, those who believe in God also want to be in His eternal presence. The human spirit instinctively strives for intangible things -- love, happiness, perfection (God); but the human body strives for tangible things. However, possessing both body and spirit, I believe we want it all. Our human frailties cause us to want to "have our cake and eat it, too."  We can't see the whole picture. That's why Paul said, "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him." (1 Corinthians 2:9) He was giving us a glimpse of heaven: immortality....eternity, as revealed to him by the Holy Spirit.

This is a truly thought provoking piece (as you can see.)Thank you for sharing. ~SS

LIIKE HOW THIS FOLDS TOGETHER INTO UNSEEN CENTERFOLD
What I like about your writing is that it seems to give a vivid, sensual content, but when I go to grasp it, it's more like an evening breeze, or the rustle of the trees (can't grasp that either). but I know that it's there--a little like being touched by a feather.

I also like the rhythm and strcture, and the slight dispropotion between the 2 parts of the poem (which makes it work): The 1st line announced but separated from the next 6--then the re-announcement, standing alone again (and the bold print works) and then 7. If it were just 6 and 6 you'd have 2 halves of a poem. But the 7 lines in 2nd part--this minor disprorption makes it work rhymically, and I get the sense of an on-going completion.

Re-read the Runner, and the comments I wrote then, that I had a feeling of what I just wrote now. Call it my preference (and everybody has one) but I tend to think that what is abstract is really the most concrete.

Remember what I said how poetry is like a store? If you let them browze, and don't direct them what you think they should be interseted in, a lot of us are going to find things threrein, you might never have thought about.

Was also reading WHEN THE EARTH SHAKES. Don't mind me if I'm a chronic editor--though I always recomend Doctors not operate on themselves. Will email you direct.

John
