To some degree, yes, those games are the offspring of D&D.
While D&D and the real role-playing games are great ways to get together with friends and spend time is a positive social activity, unlike those computer games which are not truly social activity. If you've never played a real role-playing game, get out and try one. GURPS is a fun one since, your really can do just about anything you come up with.. You can find out about it here.

I remember when you'd accompany me to D&D at a friend's house. You liked it then.
and the guy who ordered the pineapple/clam pizza
now that's the way to play D&D

I have to admit I don't know much about the game
but one of my brothers use to play it all the time
and really got caught up in it
