I don't understand
the concept of reality TV. Never have, probably never will. I certainly don't see what's so entertaining about watching a bunch of people living together and arguing about everything.
The only 'reality' type show I've ever watched is Beauty and the Geek. My hubby watches because he likes to laugh at the geeks and stare at the beauties. I watch because he won't change the channel--and I'll admit, I do find it interesting to see relationships form between people who would normally never interact. I'm sure most of it is fake, but it's still an interesting concept.

most of the reality shows are just to mean for my liking.
How about the one where they hook you to a lie detector, that shows proves just how money hungry some people are. Watch enough of this stuff and we will be back feeding people to the lions for entertainment.

I agree that television has gone a little far in the way of the whole reality concept but it's only human nature to watch these bits as if hypnotized into doing so. Thanks for writing.

Making us all a bunch of couch potato passive-agressive voyeurs,
Tattered. I don't watch the reality shows that pit people against each other. They're almost as bad as Jerry Springer (except I did like the idea behind 'The Apprentice' and the 'Amazing Race' was okay -- I watched neither this year). I'll stick to the reality shows that pit people against themselves, their memory, their greed, their intellect, their abilities -- American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance, 1 Against 100, Don't Forget The Lyrics, Moment of Truth (except this show is boringly slow and loses its suspense), Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader? But they could can Big Brother, all those reality shows on most of the lesser networks. Oh, there are three other reality shows on I think are better than most: America's Most Wanted, COPS (who says you need a script for a reality show?), and Extreme Makeover Home Edition...

I think people enjoy knowing it's happening to someone else --
sort of a 21st century Roman Gladiator games thing...

I get a genuine kick out of the people who follow those shows. They have a convoluted sense of reality themselves. It makes for great entertainment! sam

The best part about reality tv is that it frees up time for me since I
rarely watch any of it.

I see that reality crap advertized! So, I stick to my old re-runs on TV land. Bonanza had some some sticking up for the good and true! And the laughs come no matter how many times I see the Beverly Hillbillies. Faked reality is what they peddle!

It is so true that we would want "it" to happen to someone else. We just don't want it to happen to us. We always root for our favorite and don't care what happens to "the other guy" I think that is why so many watch the "reality" shows. As for me I want to be taken to a distant place where there is a story to be told. Good insight on this!

The thing about "reality" shows is that...
...where there is a video camera, there is acting. So much for "reality."

Interesting observations! I don't watch these shows, but it would be interesting to seriously analyze why they're so popular! I think you're on to something here...

I don't care for reality shows, unless "American Idol" is one. I do like to watch that. Its more like a glorified old-fashioned talent show.
