The polio epidemic of 1950 or '51 took at least one boy from our school,
put a couple students in an iron lung for a while, and struck half a dozen others. We all lived in fear of it, and in August when it was the hottest, our folks wouldn't let us swim in the creek or the river, afraid of contagion. A buddy of mine recovered but for a slight limp, which didn't keep him out of the military after HS, and he's been all over the world. But about five years ago, 50-odd years after the epidemic, he's having bone and joint problems. The "gift" that keeps on giving. Thanks for keeping the campaign for vaccinations going and reminding us about the risks. :)pat

You are incredibly strong and resilient. It amazes me that some people are not interested in the vaccines. I can still remember standing in long lines outside the local high school waiting to get mine.
