Saulrelative, I agree with you, and believe the time has come. Two years from now we should be out of there, save for a huge new embassy, an air base, and the residual force.

For many, tough talk about Iraq and fighting the war on terror (still one
of the stupidest terms ever conceived) are the same thing.  Differentiation here is like splitting hairs.  Of course, many do get what he's saying and do not see it as doublespeak, obfuscatory rhetoric, or parsing, which I do not believe it is.  The War in Iraq must be treated as a separate issue and dealt with separately.  Why?  Because the rest of the world looks at it as a separate issue, an example of imperialism, capitalistic hegemony, aggressive economic colonialism, whatever.  Iraq is an international relations nightmare and will continue to be so for decades.  We need to leave and allow the Iraqis to reassume autonomy.  If it all goes to hell, well, it won't be too far from the way it's been for the past five years, now will it?  America could provide oversight from Afghanistan (with rapid deployment forces and technological superiority, policing Iraq from afar, while allowing them more self-determination should have been the way to go from the beginning, but Dubya had to have his god-sanctioned war) and continue the war on terrorISM from there...
