thank you, callista!  And I wholeheartedly second your feelings about wanting your home to be a place where others can gather. My house today is in a bit of a shambles, but will be straightened around this weekend.

yes, i agree with your mother, my grandmother raised me and told me the
same thing.  We all leave the dishes and beds once in a while, if sick or in a hurry and sometimes we just put it off, but it is the exception and not the rule. To me it is a matter of taking care of myself and not expecting someone else to pick up after me.  It is a matter of wanting my home to be a place my family and friends can come and feel comfortable and enjoy.

Re: I agree with your Mother !
Thank you!  I always have, perhaps only because I was raised that way!

You know today I was speaking with an elderly person, in their 80's...we spoke of how rapidly and how steadily the world is changing and sadly, not for any good.  Oh yes, we have so much technology and so much improvement on this and that however, the decline in society has become so great, and in many areas.   I appreciate your question and from your obvious disdain of what you see...I work in situations myself that I sometimes must pray to be around.I find pity and compassion comes forth and overrides any judgement of what I 'see' due to the fact that there are many many situations of - in this world that we may never be able to understand for simple lack of knowledge (we never know what others may be going through).  I do know that I have a plaque hanging near my keys to remind me daily:  "Let me try a little harder to be all that I should be" (and there but for the Grace of God, might be me).  Helps me to remember that when I can't do the laundry or the dishes before I head on out the door to help others in need, that yes, situations may arise to hinder my trying as hard as I try.   I empathize with you, your frustration and I also sympathize with those that may be suffering or in need.

I enjoy your writings.  I lived in Maine for 6 yrs and my son now lives there with his wife and my beautiful granddaughter...I'm back in Texas but how I love to visit them.  Maine is a gorgeous state~  Ely
