If you run for office, you can win only if you satisfy enough voters. Adjusting their positions to the voters' wishes is not necessarily a bad thing. Unless, of course, they do it without a rational and logical explanation.

There are politicians
simply doing and saying anything to get elected.

Can we resurrect Henry Clay?  Failing that, my vote is for the candidate who suffered the most damage by doggedly sticking to a position, who would "rather be right than President".

BTW, Pat Paulsen, may he rest in peace, is dead on about the modern political candidate:
