There are too many radars pointed at the sky, and every industrialized nation is able to track satellite orbits and objects in space, especaiily in LEO like the spy sat was in. So I think to cut down on conspiracy theories, and accusation about more military build up, the public was told, and a thousand pound brick of hydrazine honestly is a public safety concern.

I'm just curious 'why' we were told at all about the shooting down of the satellite? I mean it could have been kept secret or denied just like all the others secret denials.
