Hi vogue,
Actually, I have added publishing to the activities of my company. It is surprisingly cheap to do and it gives me complete editorial control. Of course, simply getting a book to print is only part of the process. Besides tying up a few loose ends from that stage, I have to market my work, which takes three directions: local connections, national exposure and web advertising. I have hardly started with any of that, but I have a few solid leads.
Between these efforts and my consulting assignment, not to mention my personal life, I have a pretty full plate. However, at some point, I will entertain publishing works by other authors. I have not intention of ever becoming a vanity press, so the works will have to have some merit or quality that I consider exceptional. Needless to say, I will have to acquire more confidence in the full process and the potential for a return on my editorial and administrative efforts before I embark on that stage of my enterprise.
Sorry to not be of more help, but I cannot assure you that we would be successful in publishing your books until I have a better feel for what it takes to be successful in publishing my own. The risks I take with respect to my own works are those one takes for passion. They are not ones that I can feel at all comfortable with sharing with others. When I enter into an agreement with other authors, it will be of the more conventional kind where the author receives a royalty but contributes nothing other than the work itself, review at various stages of bringing it to print and the time for book signings and other appearances.

Fab Carl, just fab! If you don´t mind me asking, did you self publish? Do you have an agent? Would you consider giving me an introduction? I think I mentioned on the cafe, that I have 2 finished novels (chick lit) and am trying to find an agent, so far without success although 6 enquiries are still pending. Again: congratulations! It is so uplifting to hear that a blog pal is in print!!

For the booksellers out there, I still have to see how to get the calculations from the various shippers in order to set up a page for you. That and figuring out what sort of discount off of the $14 list price I should offer for various quantities. That latter part will become clearer once I have struck some deals with local bookstores.
