I stood up once - couldn't help myself
Some wise guy mouthing off in a public convenient store (no one else around, ,him, his friend, and a clerk) loud and cursing tales of putting a girlfriend in her place, proved more than I could bear that day.  I told him I didn't have to hear this crap, he claimed we were in America, I  let him know  we were in a public place and he wasn't free to carry on this way, while I was there. He left and flipped me off outside. I scolded the clerk too for not saying a word. I'm glad I wasn't hurt, it might not have been smart, but I just had to speak up.
