Yeah, but the really
el cheapo card producers make them with only one side slick. (I know this, having bought many a deck of playing cards at the El Cheapo store for Christmas stocking stuffers) Sure they wear out more quickly, but that's the point.

You might try doing your artwork on thinner stock and using transparent packing/mailing tape on both sides of the material, extending beyond the edge of the stock about an eighth to a quarter inch for a good seal around the edges; trim the corners round so they don't catch on things so easily. Although I've never seen any of that tape wider than about 2 inches in the grocery, you might be able to find wider at a stationery, office supply, U-Haul or other movers.

About Cards

Gryphon: Laminating one side of the cards (can that be done?) wouldn't protect them from getting dirty and messed up.

On a different tack concerning cards,
would laminating only one side of the cards make them easier to handle? Just think, they used to make cards of thin wood or ivory slabs. You wouldn't be able to do a one handed shuffle with them.

An interesting comment you made about the cards.
When I was in high school, I used a 52 card deck (bridge deck) to "tell fortunes." It worked really well until I got too close to the truth on a couple of readings, at which time I stopped giving readings. Then later on I used a Waite deck, bought over the counter. I stopped doing readings, because using the deck was causing psychic problems in other areas of my life. I gave that deck away to a friend, who expressed an interest in them, and shortly thereafter drifted away from our acquaintance. From others, I heard she was having problems in her life similar to the problems I had experienced. I tried to get in touch with her to tell her to do something about those cards, but after a bout of phone tag, I left her a voice mail recommendation. She never responded, and no one seems to know where she is or what she is doing.

(Paula, if you're reading this, I'm still living where I did when you took my daughter Trick-or-Treating. Look me up
