i guess it would have to an individual observation thing, i would have to
watch each person and then try to determine why they are so kind to animals. Animals are easier to show affection to. They show us unconditional love, and come to think of it , it might be a control issue since with our animals we are in complete control. It could be the dogs life is not as good as it appears to an outsider. Just like abused children are not usually abused in public. this was a tough questions, thanks i enjoyed the visit.

Self-hatred, maybe
I think that in many cases, though certainly not all, an individual turns his or her own self-hatred outward onto all of humanity, trying to build up their self esteem by tearing down others, by such words and actions as subjugating human rights to those of animals.

GAwd, such hostility in some of those comments, This is my take, some like animals more than humans because animals are instinctual and humans are reasoning beings, meaning that an animal just does not have the capability to think about doing evil while humans do. Now that does not make animals better than humans because we humans most often than not, even though we can choose to do evil ( drive byes, beating hamburger servers and the like) we usually choose to do good instead, as evidenced by the fact that most of us are here and not dead by flying bullets or crazed customers. It must be terrible to be the victim of an evil human action, and I can see how trust in humanity can be shaken, but one must not generalize and blame us all for the actions of a few. G-d bless you all and help you find healing.

I would rate anyone high who gives a hoot for both humanity and animal kingdom. Yes, humanity has free will and may use it wrongly, but humanity can use that same free will to transcend the dross of everyday existence. We can learn from wisdom from animals' ways. I learned this from Native American folklore, mythology, spirituality. We are all ONE.

ahhhhhhhhhhh
so you are one in the same?? Well, sorry but yeah, She did leave the house because of threatening phone calls, and she is just a little bit sensitive over this subject because I am her. And yeah, I would trust an animal in the wild anyday, over a human turning a corner on a dark street coming toward me. Insensitive to humans?? No, just know what they are capable of doing. I also know, once you lose trust in humans, it's very very hard to get it back. Ever had anyone you love shot during a drive by??? Ever had anyone beat the crap out of you because their hamburger in the place you worked wasn't prepared the way they wanted it? Perhaps you are the one who is insensitive to humans. Obviously you don't know them too well. Open your eyes and look farther than your nose.

Some people are more comfortable with animals that they may give this appearance. My doctor is an animal lover and has been thought of as less sensitive to people. But I say she loves them both, it is just a matter of how comfortable you are in your own skin. After all everything outside of one is merely an opinion. sam

Tigerprincess has a valid comment! People need the attention too, if they need help. Getting close to them maybe a mistake, but if you give, they receive, period! No long story!

I have been accused of this as I thought MV should have been given the same treatment he did his dogs. I believe that animals can't help themselves. They need human beings to care for and love them. They understand sooo much yet can only manage so little. Animals in many physical ways are helpless, but is so many other ways are strong. People will tend to screw you at every turn. love you only conditionally or if it's convienent for them, and tend to treat others bad in general. Animals, while they can't feed themselves or protect themselves from elements as well as humans can, will love you unconditionally, and show you unending loyalty, they don't care who you know, or how you dress or what your bank balance is. They just care how you pet them, what you will throw for them, and what they can do for you. Take that for what you will.

Smart
anyone who knows that an animal only kills to defend or for food is smart and anyone who cares for those creatures have more heart than most humans have. humans will hurt or kill just for fun, for pleasure. An animal won't. I say give em a 10
