Re:

How can it not be good to discuss religion? It is only by discussion that we can question our position and listen attentively to the views of others. If we are not prepared to discuss we are not prepared to listen and if we're not prepared to listen we my live in ignorance, which for some is bliss, but for others is an opportunity for a more enlighted existence lost.

Do you prefer bliss?

Re: Mavro -it is a ridiculous concept but surprisingly a great number of people
My point is that if one is capable of putting such faith into something as abstract a God, any God, then it clear that the balance of their mind is in question and its ability to reason is also in doubt. And if someone is capable of believing so blindly then they are potentially capable of behaving irrationally in the blissful knowledge that they are following the path of enlightenment while the rest of us are groping in the dark and need to be forced into the light.

Mavro -it is a ridiculous concept but surprisingly a great number of people

do not see it that way.

There is not a great deal of difference between the mindset which compels the terrorists to kill in the name of their God and any other religious group that would not denounce such a concept for the lunacy that it is. We've seen it many times on this site where someone is implying their willingness to die in the name of their God. There is however a vast difference between those who would talk about such things as if it is some noble and worthy cause in of itself and those capable of actually doing it. In this context it is merely lip service paid to a naive and facetious notion, articulated I would guess, to demonstrate that the individual is a much more devoted "whatever" than the next person. If any of them were actually ever faced with such a choice, you can bet that they would not be so willing.

Please look at the big picture before judging me
It is this very blind faith that you argue against that I also want to get rid off!  We need to get people to see that any imagined God is an idol not to be worshipped.  Please read my whole blog before judging it
