Often, the problem with people in mainstream religion is they feel secure with phrases like, Paul said this or Peter wrote that. It really does deflect responsibility for what they believe. I try to avoid this. If I believe something, I state it as my belief. It may be based on something written in the Bible, but if I truly believe, I want the person I am conversing with to be clear on the fact that I do own said belief.
I do have to recognize that each of us are at different points in our journey. If you still need your security blanket, use it, but don't be shocked when someone like Gome calls you on it.
