The origins of language - in spite of Noam Chomsky, whose stuff I know, we have no overall theory! Chomsky is certainly interesting, and his concepts of 'deep structures' and 'generative grammar' have allure because they represent some of the most coherent statements we have.
His politics? Don't get me started - let me just say that it never fails to amaze me that someone so rational in his field of expertise can be so woolly-headed when he ventures forth into politics, where he allowed himself to be taken in by his own act and by the adoration of crazy-left ideologues, until he became one himself...

Oh, the origins of language, etc...
study of this is linguistics. Sometimes a linguist will get off into politics, etc. -- ever heard of a guy named Noam Chomsky?
